Employment Services in Schools Workshops: Collaborating and Partnering for Employment Outcomes

This is a two-day workshop - March 2 & 3, 2021

The Ministry of Social Development has recently contracted a number of local employment service providers to support disabled school leavers to prepare for, and successfully move from their secondary education into employment.

This new service is called ‘Employment Services in Schools’. It is separate and distinct from other supports and services currently available.

We want to hear from you about how we can work in partnership to develop effective employment services in schools. We are holding workshops to create a space for open and shared conversations between three main groups (i) students and their families / whānau (ii) educators and learning support providers, and (iii) the new contracted employment support providers.   The facilitated workshops will be designed to hear what each group of people thinks is important in the new service, what they can contribute to the process and how we can genuinely collaborate and work in partnership to develop successful pathways to meaningful employment.

Who should attend?

  • 14 – 21year old secondary school students who have a disability, health and/or mental health condition, or who identify as neurodiverse and where these impairments present a barrier to employment
  • Family and or whānau of students
  • Secondary school educators
  • Employment Services in Schools – contracted providers
  • Key Ministry of Education and Ministry of Social Development staff
  • Other key stakeholders

These events will involve:

  1. A two-day workshop across five locations.

The events will cover, but not be limited to:

  • what this new contract is expected to deliver and how it differs from, and interacts with, existing services and supports
  • how each of the groups can contribute to the success of the students
  • ways we can share our personal and professional networks and resources to support students to get real and meaningful employment
  • how, as a local community, we can most effectively work together over the medium to longer term to create pathways that maximise the possibility for all students leaving school to successfully enter employment.

This a free workshop. To register email Sue Eastwood on [email protected]
