Purpose

This conference will explore what has been learnt about the implementation and contribution of Individualised Funding to the life opportunities of people with disabilities and their families both internationally and within New Zealand.

The conference will explore Indivisualised Funding through:

  • Research and Evaluation:
    Looking at what is currently known about the development and implementation of Individualised Funding both nationally and internationally.
  • Celebration:
    Sharing the stories and life changes that Individualised Funding has made possible in the lives of people and their families.
  • Challenges and Cautions
    Learning from and recognising the challenges that will inevitably arise from the introduction and widespread adoption of Individualised Funding.

Keynote Speakers

Andrew Tyson

Andrew Tyson is a health and social care practitioner, based in Brighton, England.. Andrew has worked for around thirty years as a manager and from 1999 as a commissioner of health and social care services, mainly for people with mental health issues and for people with learning difficulties.

Between 2005 and 2011 he worked for the organisation, In Control, which pioneered self-directed support and personal budgets in the UK. Andrew has published articles in a wide range of journals and was involved in producing many of In Control's publications between 2005 and 2011.

Marian Frattarola-Saulino

Marian Frattarola-Saulino is co-founder of Values Into Action (VIA), an organisation offering individualised services to people with disabilities living in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. She currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer leading over 100 staff members in supporting 50 people in their own homes and communities in Pennsylvania and 10 Supports Coordinators assisting over 300 people find and use community resources in New Jersey. Marian is committed to building and sustaining organisations that provide opportunities for participative leadership and learning, exceptional customer service and a responsive, compassionate culture.

Throughout her career, Marian has worked as a direct support professional, support broker, service director, executive director of a traditional provider agency, and staff leader of the 'All Our Own' project, in which she assisted people and their families in developing the first microboards in Pennsylvania in 2004. In 2009, she was invited to co-facilitate the development of the Pennsylvania Microboard Association and is a founding member.

Marian has served as adjunct faculty at Widener University's School of Social Work and has provided training with the Pennsylvania Training Partnership and Temple University's Institute on Disabilities. Currently, she serves as faculty at the National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities' Leadership Institute at the University of Delaware and is an Advisor to the Board Inclusion Project, currently funded by the Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council.

John Waters

John Waters is an independent consultant based in the United Kingdom. He has helped local authorities understand and solve key systems challenges they face when adopting self-directed support. John has also led In Control's research and evaluation programme He has an interest in social innovation and has taken forward work that has seen self-directed support emerge in challenging new areas; including work with people who are homeless and more recently with repeat offenders serving custodial sentences.

Richard Buchanan

Richard Buchanan was an early adopter of Individualised funding. He has developed his understanding at both a personal and professional as a Individualised Fundholder and as the Southern Regional Manager of Manawanui In Charge.

Rob Gill

Rob Gill was the first CEO of Manawanui InCharge. Rob's bio is not yet available but will be posted as soon as possible.
