About the Event
Tuesday 6 November 2018
1:30pm – 3:30pm
Blind Foundation, 17th Avenue (opposite the Historic Village)
We are excited to host a forum with Gerri Pomeroy, President Disabled Persons Assembly NZ, member of the National EGL Leadership group and member of the Waikato EGL Leadership group. Gerri will offer insights into the ‘new system’ with a focus on disabled persons leadership and some ideas on how we can prepare for the new era. The Forum is an open environment where we can:
- explore the EGL vision and principles;
- share information;
- discuss opportunities, challenges, learnings and stories;
- ask questions about EGL and the system transformation;
- build our network;
- think about what we consider important for the BOP.
The Disability System in Aotearoa NZ is currently in a process of ‘transformation’. Disabled people, family/whanau, providers and officials are all currently involved in what is called the Mid Central Prototype. (You can learn more about this by visiting the Enabling Good Lives Website http://www.enablinggoodlives.co.nz/)
An important aspect of this new system is the active involvement of families / whanau at all stages of the process including ongoing leadership and governance.
This forum is particularly targeted at people with lived experience of disability. If you are family/carer, or if you are a service provider, separate forums have been arranged. For further information please do not hesitate to contact Paul Curry on firstname.lastname@example.org
