PurposeThis service design course is unique and is aimed at bridging the gap between what is hoped for, and what is actually realistic for services to deliver on, by way of individualised person-by-person lifestyle arrangements. Read more in the course overview When and WhereVenueThis course will either be held in Hamilton or Auckland depending on interest. Exact location will be advised later in the year. DatesIt is anticipated that the course will be held on the weeks of 28 February - 4 March and 21 - 25 March 2011. These dates will be confirmed later in the year. Attendance at both weeks of training, in their entirety, is essential for registration in this event. HoursThe hours of the event are normally 9am-5pm each day, but due to the partnering work with service users and families, participants will be spending part of various evenings working with service users and families directly. Course LeadersThis programme will be led by Michael J. Kendrick PhD. Michael is well known internationally for his work on service quality, leadership, innovation, service user empowerment, advocacy and safeguards. He has been involved with individualised service design for over 30 years in many countries and has taught extensively on designing innovative services, particularly for people considered "difficult to serve". Lorna Sullivan is the Chief Executive of Standards Plus, a small, national agency in New Zealand working to promote innovation and change in the delivery of services and the development of community for disabled people, older people and people with experience of mental illness and their families. Lorna has worked extensively within the disability sector in New Zealand . Her particular areas of interest include working with people with a disability and family members to build services and supports that are genuinely relevant to their needs and their individual pursuit for personally meaningful futures. She uses what she learns to support people with a disability, their families, advocacy groups, service providers and governments interested in working for positive change. Who Should AttendDue to the length and intensity of this course, it is advisable that only people who have genuine commitment to and demonstrate abilities to be creative, innovative and rigorous about individualised service quality be encouraged to attend. All prices include GST and covers tuition, all materials and morning/afternoon tea, lunch, but not travel, evening meals or accommodation. The course is restricted to a maximum number of 30 participants and will be filled on a first come/first served basis.
