The Power of Sharing our Lives
Presented by Ana-Maria de Vos People with intellectual disability / learning disability are amongst the most vulnerable in the disability sector. They often need closer connections with other members of the community to increase their participation and reduce their isolation and vulnerability. We are living in a busy society and we don't think that we have enough time to make a difference in a person's life. In this workshop adults with an intellectual disability will share their stories. People from different walks of life will share their stories of how they made time to make a difference to one person as a volunteer advocate and how that has impacted their life. This workshop will show the difference it makes to life when people share and support one another. View Presentation (pdf)
Listening to Your Heart and working well with your therapist
Presented by Laura Hurtado-Roberts This presentation looks at building positive relationships between parents, teachers and therapists. Sometimes there are so few signs that something is wrong for your child that only the parent notices. In the process of child development, there comes a point when you realise your child doesn't behave like other children. There is something that seems to be odd but it is difficult to diagnose or even to identify it. What are the challenges with the so-called invisible disabilities? What sort of intervention is available for the developmental delays of children who have not completly reached the first seven years phase of development? How to cope and take positive action?
